Ever wondered what the world’s biggest spider eats? Well look no further because I have all the good stuff! Goliath bird eating spiders eat a lot, including: Crickets, beetles, frogs, bats, mice, other small animals, and even birds. Although they are called the “goliath BIRD eating spiders” they usually eat other, smaller things than birds, although they can snatch one every once in awhile. How do they catch their prey? Well, these spiders use some techniques, such as laying down a silk mat that will notify them, through vibration, when prey is near. When a goliath spider wants to catch it’s meal, it pounces on the victim, Hooks onto it with it’s hairy legs, and uses its long fangs to inject venom into their food. The venom is used to paralyse, and kill the prey. When the victim dies, the spider puts an acid, or dissolving liquid on the prey. Then, after some time, the prey will be a puddle of spider food. The spider has to do this because otherwise, it will not eat, it does not have teeth, but instead a straw-like mouth, that sucks up the food. These spiders don’t only kill, but they have predators of their own. Their predators, like wasps as an example, apparently like these creatures to suffer, because how they eat, is disturbing. The wasp lays eggs on this arachnid, and when they hatch, they dig into the skin of the tarantula, eating it alive, saving organs for last, so it will be alive as long as possible. In the end, survival is a fierce competition, but these spiders know a good way to snag up a somewhat delicious meal.
